Bourne Farm
These 35 acres in West Falmouth are owned and operated by Salt Pond Areas Bird Sanctuaries, Inc., a private land trust. The farm, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was established in 1775. Salt Pond restored the farmhouse and raises pumpkins in the large field that are sold on Pumpkin Day, a popular family event held in October.
Crockers Pond at Bourne Farm
Visitors can follow the dirt drive to the back of the property, where a trail goes under the old railroad tracks — now part of the bike path extension — and leads into the 14 acres of hilly woods beyond. The land trust has erected small markers that identify various trees and shrubs along the trails. To the north, the woods connect to the herring run at Wing Pond, which is town conservation land, and cranberry bogs operated by Handy Cranberry Trust.
Bourne Farm is on West Falmouth Highway (Route 28A) at the intersection with Thomas B. Landers Road.
