Conservation Lands

Dorothea Allen Parcel

Cranberry bogs are apt to catch the attention of motorists on Carriage Shop Road in East Falmouth, rather than the short stretch of woods beyond the bogs. The woods, however, offer visitors a quiet walk on a trail network that seems far removed from the nearby road traffic.

The town purchased the 71-acre property from Dorothea Allen in 2004, the same year the town purchased Falmouth Country Club. Most of the parcel is conservation land, and 14 acres on the west side were designated for municipal use.

A utility easement extends along the western boundary and along the back of the property. To the east are 130 acres of woods bought by the town in 1977 and 1978 for well site protection.

Although there is no parking now, creating a small parking space is a goal of The 300 Committee’s new volunteer steward for the parcel. A trail leads into the woods from the utility easement off Carriage Shop Road; another trail enters the woods from Carriage Shop Road across from Wagon Trail Road.
